Inventor’s Dream:

Students are challenged to create the “Ultimate Recycling Invention.” Using re-purposed materials, young engineers will combine the functional and the imaginative into a device that transports a can into a recycling bin, and maybe way beyond it! This is a collaborative experience where students explore the engineering design process to re-think what we overlook every day.
Ages: This experience can be adapted for almost any age student (5th-8th grade). Ideal for public events where families and a range of ages are participating.
Scale: Medium to Large space recommended: classroom (20 students at time), auditorium, gymnasium, cafeteria, outdoors (20-50 students at a time), gymnasium, outdoors (20-120 students at a time)
Duration: 45 minutes-1 ½ hour per session
Facilitation: 1:10 facilitator:inventor ratio (T4T facilitator, Teacher, Parent Volunteer, etc)
Cost: $750* + mileage for a 3 hour event $1,200* + mileage for a 6 hour event (1 T4T facilitator included, each additional facilitator is $100/hr)
*Event cost only. Based on the scale of the event, we will provide a custom quote for the cost to leave behind materials & projects.

Roller Coasters, Ramps & Tunnels

Students are challenged to create the “Ultimate Roller Coaster.” Groups of students collaborate to design, build, and test their custom configurations of tubes, run-ways, ramps, and tunnels. This workshop is an experience that unites hands-on discovery, observation, invention & experimentation. How long a path can you build? Can you make a loop-d-loop?
Ages: This experience can be adapted for almost any age student (K-5).

Interdisciplinary Project Based Learning = Science + Technology + Engineering + Math + Language Arts
How do we facilitate next generation thinking? We are proposing a model that integrates science, math, and language arts through in-depth projects, where technology, engineering and even social studies can be additional layers of interconnected learning.
What would this look like? Mentor schools like Para los Ninos (LAUSD Charter School) are pioneers in this exploration, and T4T materials have been the backbone of this work for the past 5 years.
Can this approach be shared with other schools? T4T is project managing a multi-year, multi-institution pilot project to explore and expand this paradigm at a district scale, called “Building Foundations for a sySTEMic Future.” This an enormous collaborative venture, involving a team of the most forward thinking specialists in LA: Classroom EcosySTEM Approach, the UCLA Science Project, Para los Ninos, Pasadena Education Foundation, Pasadena Unified School District, Washington Accelerated Elementary School. Launching Fall 2012
Intel SCIENCE KITS
1,500 science kits were assembled and distributed from 2011-2012.
Big Thanks to Dave Zobel who created the first 3 fantastic lessons which were packaged into easily distributed classroom kits, to Intel who sponsored the hands-on science initiative, and to all the Intel employees who assembled the kits, and all the teachers who picked up the kits and used them in their classrooms.
